Juan Martin Del Potro has confirmed that he intends to participate at the ATP Malaysia Open which begins on the 22nd September. Del Potro has been absent from action since competing in the first round of doubles at Indian Wells due to surgery on his wrist. This will be Del Potro's fist time playing at the event.

The former US Open champion has recently posted a video on his Facebook account of him on court as he continues his recovery. He is still wearing a splint on his left wrist at the moment. It was expected that the Argentine would miss the rest of the 2014 season but recovery seems to be going better than expected.

At the start of the year Del Potro won the ATP Apia Sydney international where he beat Bernard Tomic in the final and also made the quarter finals in Rotterdam before he was sidelined due to his wrist. Del Potro is still currently ranked in the top 10 at 7.

There will also be two other top ten players joining Del Potro in Malaysia. Japanese superstar Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic has also confirmed their intentions to play in the event. Commenting on his participation at the event. Nishikori spoke very favourably about Malaysia.

“I always love to come back to Malaysia,”
“They have a great stadium, good crowd and good food at the lounge, too. I’ve not won the tournament, so it‘s going to be my goal to win it. Hopefully I can do well at Malaysia this year.”

It is still not clear if this tournament will be Del Potro's first comeback tournament since surgery.
