Spanish number one Rafael Nadal would be unable to play for his country against Canada in the first round of the Davis Cup but he went to airport to see off the Spanish doubles team Marc Lopez and Marcel Granollers, wishing them luck for the event in Canada.

Nadal used to play with either Lopez or Granollers, whenever he used to decide to play doubles at any event. However, Lopez and Granollers joined forces at the Davis Cup last year and are now one of the best doubles team in the world.

The 11-time Grand Slam champion posted a picture on his facebook page, in which he could be seen standing with Lopez and Granollers.

Nadal wrote this caption under the picture, “I meet two great friends at the airport! Good luck in Vancouver!”

Spain will have a tough task in Vancouver as they will have to face Canadian team at their own backyard and on the fast hard courts. To make things worse for the Spanish side, their second best player and world number five David Ferrer is also unavailable for the tie.

Spanish team, which has won the biggest team event in the sport four times in the last 13 years, will be led by the world number 11 Nicolas Almagro. Almagro lost his both singles matches, when Spain lost to Czech Republic in the final of Davis Cup last year.

Granollers, who is on the 32nd position in the singles rankings, would also serve as the second singles player. World number 51 Albert Ramos is the fourth member of the team and would only be used if Granollers does not remain fresh enough for the fifth rubber.

Canadian team will be spearheaded by the world number 15 Milos Raonic. The number one player of Canada lost to Federer in the fourth round of the Australian Open.

There is a possibility that Spain and Canada would be even in the singles rubbers, winning two matches each. Doubles match would be the deciding factor in that case.

Lopez and Granollers, who make the third highest ranked doubles team at the moment, would be the favorites but they will face tough resistance from one of the best doubles player of all time Daniel Nestor.

Meanwhile, Nadal is now scheduled to make his comeback at the VTR Open in Chile in the first week of next month. It will be his first tournament after a layoff of more than seven months.
