Davis Cup - ITF denies Pakistan´s appeal against disqualification

Tennis - Pakistan were disqualified after court became unplayable

Tennis - The ITF has denied Pakistan's appeal regarding its disqualification from their recent Asia Oceanis zonal group encounter against New Zealand. The tie was originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan but was moved to a neutral venue doe to security concerns in Pakistan.

The tie was then held in Myanmar, where the courts developed a big hole during the second singles rubber on the first day. Pakistan were leading 1-0 and were also leading in the second singles when the incident happened and the match referee came in and awarded the tie to the Kiwis since it was Pakistan's turn to host the tie and the courts were not upto the standards.

The ITF's Davis Cup Committee cited Regulation 44(d) of the ITF Davis Cup Regulations which states that “the Referee may call off a Tie and award the victory to the Visiting Nation if the Home Nation fails to provide a playable court as per Regulation 38”; and Regulation 44(e) which states that “the decision of the Referee is final”. Regulation 38 refers to the surface of the courts and playing conditions.

As per the Davis Cup Regulations, the Pakistan Tennis Federation has the right to appeal the decision of the Davis Cup Committee to the ITF Board of Directors.
