Argentina's Juan Monaco is through to the quarter finals of the German Open in Hamburg for the first time in seven tries.
14th ranked Monaco beat Spaniard Daniel Munoz-De La Nava 7-6(4), 6-3 to set up a quarter final against France’s Jeremy Chardy, who was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over wild card Julian Reister.
Top seed Nicolas Almagro was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over 2009 champion and former world no. 3 Nikolay Davydenko of Russia.
He will next play sixth-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber. “It’s going to be a tough one, but now I have nothing to lose,” commented Kohlschreiber. “So far I’ve reached my best result here in Hamburg, and I’m very happy about it.”
Kohlschreiber defeated Fabio Fognini of Italy 7-5, 6-2.
