ATP St. Petersburg - Kubot stuns second seeded Denis Istomin

At the St. Petersburg Open in Russian, Poland’s Lukasz Kubot upset second seed Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the second round.

Istomin is now only 27-27 for the season.

Third-seeded Slovakian Martin Klizan, coming off a good run at the US Open, was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Russian wid card Mikhail Elgin and now plays Simone Bolelli, who beat Argentina's Horacio Zeballos 7-6(3), 7-5.

The no. 4 seed Fabio Fognini defeated German Tobias Kamke 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to set up a match against Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky, who defeated Ivan Nedelko 7-6(2), 6-2.

Eighth-seeded Jurgen Zopp advanced Andrey Kumantsov retired because of dizziness. Zopp was leading 63 53 when Kumantsov stopped. Zopp will now play former junior world no. 1 Ricardas Berankis who also advanced when his opponent retired. Berankis was leading German Philipp Petzschner 6-2, 3-3 when the German's knee injury forced him to stop.
