After winning the Los Anegles title two weeks ago and reaching the semi finals of the ATP event last week in Washington DC, American Sam Querrey continued his good run of foem with a first round win at the ATP Rogers Cup in Toronto.
Querrey beat former top 10 player Jurgen Melzer of Austria 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday. Querrey will meet Japan's Kei Nishikori, the no. 13 seed, in the second round.
Querrey hit 11 aces in the 58 minute contest.
Querrey currently leads the US Open Series Bonus Challenge Standings after his recent run of form.
Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin beat Canadian wild card Frank Dancevic 6-3, 7-5 victory while Spaniard Marcel Granollers beat Ukrainian qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
