American Brian Baker's heart warming comeback stoory continues to gain steam as the 27 year old qualfiied for the Wimbledon championships which kick off next week.
Baker who was unranked at this point last year but is now closing in on the top 100 beat Frenchman Maxime Teixeira 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 in the final round of qualifying for the grass court major.
“It feels great and is very exciting,” Baker told the press after his win. “I started off a little slow today but I was able to turn it round pretty quickly. Once I got the first break point the floodgates kind of opened up and I was able to break a lot. I had two match points. It’s never easy closing it out.”
Baker is one of four Americans to qualify for Wimbledon,
Otehrs include Ryan Sweeting, Jesse Levine and Michael Russell.
Sweeting defeated German Peter Torebko 3-6, 1-6, 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-4. Levine scored a 7-6(3), 6-1, 6-2 win over countryman Wayne Odesnik. Russell got past Japan’s Yuichi Sugita 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
