For the first time, in Tokyo, Andy Murray arrived as a winner of a Slam. Against Ivo Karlovic, the Brit won his match in the complex without too many worries and during the press conference he discussed what it felt like returning to the court as the winner of the U.S. Open:
"I do not feel very different with the idea of being a winner of Slam. Maybe I have not realized yet, I'll do it over time. What is certain is that when I get in the final stages of the next Grand Slams I will feel much more confident of winning. Nowadays, however, it is complicated because I have returned to activity after several weeks of stoppage, but I played well and I needed it. "
"I was so ... I do not mean obsessed, but during the year my only goal was the next Grand Slam. I focused only on that and perhaps because of it in the year it happened that in some matches I could not give my best. Winning the U.S. Open helped me with this too, it has taken the weight off. Now I'm more focused and I can give my best in every match."
