Australian Open - Sloane Stephens beats Jovanovski to reach first grand slam quarter final

19 year old American teenager Sloane Stephens has advanced to her first every grand slam quarter final after a hard fought three set win over Serbian Bojanna Jovanovskiat the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Stephens, at no. 25 in the rankings, is the highest ranked teenager in the world.

She scored a 6-1 3-6 7-5 over the young Serb in a match beween the two youngest women left in the draw.

Stephens commented after her win, “She started playing really great tennis, and obviously you guys (the Hisense Arena crowd) needed to see a show, and I hope that I gave that to you. She just brought it full bore in the second and third set ... mentally it was pretty tough. I was going cross court on all of my shots and she was going down the line with every shot and hitting it with everything that she had, like every muscle in her body.

“I couldn’t find a rhythm but sometimes you just have to stick it out.”

Stephens traield 0-2 in the final set but fought back to win the set 7-5.

Stephens meets the winner of the match between Serena Williams and Maria Kirilenko next.

Commenting on her next match, Stpehens said, "I’ll just treat it as another match, you just go out and do your best. Regardless of who I play, it’s still a tennis match and you have to go out and play your game no matter what.”
