16 year old American Victoria Duval made an impression on Tennis fans across the world when she made her debut on the WTA senior Tour on Day 1 of the Us Open 2012.
She played 3-time US Open Champion and number 23 seed Kim Clijsters.
Duval began the match with much enthusiasm and a fighting spirit.
She came from being a break down (0-2) at the start of the match, (being broken in the opening game), but broke back to put a respectable 3 games on the score-board for the opening set.
She mentioned that Clijsters is one of her idols and that she will just go out to enjoy herself and try to soak it all in.
She certainly had her moments in the match; in the first set more notably.
Her backhand and movement were rather evident, while she struggled with her serve during the windy conditions.
Clijsters also took some time to settle in at the start – making several errors off both her backhand and forehand.
Her 1st serve was key to her clinching the match against the youngster, who could clearly not handle Clijsters’s power, and was thus unable to return serve well enough throughout the match.
Clijsters won 6-3 6-1.
