Former Roland Garros 1977 Finalist Florenta Mihai Died

Former Romanian tennis player Florenta Mihai died due to a disease. Mihai reached Roland Garros' final back in 1977, both in singles and mixed doubles, becoming the first Romanian to reach a Grand Slam Final. In the singles finalshe was beaten by Mima Jausovec 2/6 7/6 1/6, while in the doubles she lost the final alongside Ivan Molina. They were beaten by Mary Carillo and John McEnroe 7/6 6/3. She played many times Fed Cup and was captain of the Romanian team in this competition for 14 years.

Mihai, who had a highest ranking of World No. 23 in slngles, reached Roland Garros doubles quarter-finals in doubles in 1076 and 1978. She won in 1976 alongside Pat Megrado the Barcelona Ladies Open Beating Nathalie Fuchs and Michele Gurdal 6-2 6-4.
