Tennis - World no. 2 tennis star Maria Sharapova has become the first ever brand ambassador for the German automobile maker Porsche. Sharapova is currently in Stuttgart to plat the WTA Porsche Grand Prix this week, an event she won last year.
The Russian, already the highest earning female athlete in the world, will star in Porsche's new global communications campaign, which will kick off this week.
At a press conference to make the announcement, Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller commented, "Maria Sharapova is an exceptional athlete. She combines top performance in her sports with elegance and power. These are precisely the qualities that are embroiled in our sports cars. Maria is the perfect choice. Her profile and charisma are an ideal fit for Porsche. She is also highly respected around the world and enjoys an outstanding reputation."
Sharapova was also at the conference and commented, "This is a really special day for me. I have had the privilege to be associated with some of the best brands in the world, but now to be partners with Porsche, is such an amazing honor."
Sharapova is the top seed at this week's event in Stuttgart.
How to play from the baseline
The expression “to endure the rally” is about those indeterminate moments of a rally where none of the players is leading.
The ability to endure the rally is fundamental when you play a “long rally”, because it offers you the chance to measure your opponent’s strong points and vulnerabilities, besides letting you position as best as possible for your next offensive shot.
