Nick Kyrgios wants to equal his 2015 quarterfinal finish in Melbourne this year. The Australian, who got his best result there aside of Wimbledon 2014, also spoke about his foot issue that forced him to retire at the Kooyong exhibition.

'Obviously a little bit of a niggle. I didn't want to hinder my preparations going into the Australian Open.'

2015 was a negative year for Kyrgios, who started to be known as the 'bad boy' of tennis. The worst episode happened in August, when he sledged Stan Wawrinka, after the match, about his girl-friend. The Australian feels that he has since changed from then: 'I feel as if I'm more relaxed this year. Coming around, I've got a lot more confidence in my game and I am playing a lot better. I feel a lot more comfortable playing in front of the crowd this year. There is a little bit more expectation here, the crowd expects any Aussie to play best tennis, but honestly it's just another tournament. If you lose first round, there's 50, 60 other events you can play in the year, perform, turn that bad week into a good week.'

Last Monday, Kyrgios played the Fast 4 Tennis Exhibition in Sydney that also featured Nadal, Monfils and Hewitt. There were no line judges or ball kids in the tournament. Asked if he could imagine a match relying only on the Hawk-eye at professional level, he replied: 'Obviously only having three wouldn't work. I think some players might start making the court a bit smaller. That was a lot of fun. But I don't think guys like Roger, Rafa and Novak, people would forget to call their own balls. We're all so used to having ball kids now. It would be difficult.'
