Coming from the first title of the season, after a glorious performance against Rafael Nadal in the final of Doha, Novak Djokovic commented on the Spaniard's quotes, who said that he's never seen a tennis level like what he showed. 'I thank him for the compliments - said Djokovic - Obviously it's flattering to hear something like that from a great champion like Nadal. He is playing better than he did here last year and he continued on playing on the higher level ever since the US Open, and he's been saying that, and me, as his rival, I can confirm that, that he's striking the ball better'.
And Djokovic's words reflect on Rafa's results: finals in Beijing (lost against Nole), semifinals in Shanghai, final in Basel, quarter-finals in Paris Bercy and semifinals at the ATP Finals (lost against Djokovic). Last year the Serb won three Grand Slams losing only six matches in general. However, 'I don't feel invincible. Nobody is invincible.'
He then spoke about what he did during the off-season: 'I spent most of the time with the baby in my arms, because you don't have too much time for yourself once you become a father. I'm sure that anyone who is a parent can understand that. I have devoted myself to the family and to my boy who is 14 months old now and that requires a lot of attention. Whenever he is awake I try to be helpful to my wife and try to spend time with him, connect with him. It's very important to me. But it's lovely. It's a new chapter of my life, and I enjoy it. I was actually saying already in the last 12 months or so how that has positively reflected on my tennis and on my mindset and my motivation and actually finding the meaning and the purpose to whatever I'm doing. So now everything has kind of clicked and aligned for me in a way. So I'm trying to enjoy life as much as I can.'
Since October 21, 2014, the day where Djokovic's child was born, the Serb has won 13 titles, including 8 Masters 1000s, two ATP Finals titles and three Grand Slam titles. He lost four finals too. All this also thanks to his most important success: his son.
