Czech Petra Kvitova has not been in dominating form in recent months and her lack of conifence showed as she struggled in her first round match at the Olympic games on Saturday.
Kvitova needed all her power and experience to survive a long tense first round match against Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko before prevailing 64 57 64.
The Czech won the Wimbledon singles title last year and is one of the big favourites for a medal since the event is being played on grass this year.
Kvitova is also likely to play in the mixed doubles with Tomas Berdych
