World number four Rafael Nadal applauded the Spanish team for beating the Americans in the semi-finals of Davis Cup.

Nadal, who missed the tie with the prevailing knee injury, wrote on his facebbok page, “Great match of Ferrer! Congrats team!! Now let's go to the final!!”

The Spanish number one has not played any competitive match for more than two months but he was bidding to make a comeback for the tie but he could not succeed in his mission. Nadal and the Spanish camp is now hoping that he would be back for the final.

Spain defeated the 32-time former champions USA 3-1 and reached the final for the sixth time in the last 13 years. The European nation has won five titles during this period and is also the defending champion this time.

On the opening day of the tie, Spain won both of its singles to take a 2-0 lead but USA easily won the doubles rubber on Saturday to reduce the deficit to 1-2.

It was number one versus number one in the fourth rubber of the tie on Sunday. David Ferrer proved that he is currently one of the best clay courts in the world as he came from behind to beat world number 12 John Isner in four sets 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 and sealed the win for his country.

Ferrer was very happy on winning the tie for Spain as he said, “I’m very happy and this is a dream for me. Another Davis Cup final. We were here in Gijon at home, I won the last match and I won over John Isner who is a very, very good player.”

Spanish team’s captain Alex Corretja praised Ferrer by stating, “He’s a guy who never gives up, he’s a gladiator and he knows the way he needs to play on clay, the way he needs to move and hit the ball. On clay, it’s very difficult to beat him.”

Spain will take on Czech Republic in the final in November with a hope to capture their sixth title. Led by world number six Tomas Berdych, Czech Republic toppled Argentina 3-2 in the other semi-final. Czechs will have an advantage over the Spaniards in the final as it will be held at their home.
