Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he has firm plans to make a comeback at the start of next season and the news that he might withdraw from Australian Open are fabricated.

Nadal updated the following status on his facebook page, “I've seen that they have left mine collected statements incorrectly with respect my calendar. I am preparing me for initially anticipated tournaments of Acapulco, Melbourne, Doha and Abu Dhabi to start the year. For now it is what I have in mind.”

Rumours got spread last week that Nadal had still not recovered from his knee injury and would be pulling out from first Grand Slam of next season as well. Reporters added that Nadal would make his comeback at the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters.

That news came as a shock for Nadal’s fans, which were desperately waiting for their favorite player’s comeback. The Spaniard has not played a single tournament for almost six months now. His last match was his second round loss against Lukas Rosol in the second round of Wimbledon.

Nadal was badly missed in all the big events during this period. Some of the most notable events he could not participate in were London, Olympics, US Open, ATP World Tour Finals and Davis Cup final. The Spanish player’s fans can be found counting down days in their wait for the comeback of 11-time Grand Slam champion.

Though, that was not the truth actually. What Nadal meant was that he did not believe he had strong chances to win the Australian Open and he would gain his full form at the start of clay season.

It is true that Nadal also said that he was even willing to miss Australian Open if he was not fully fit but another truth is that he is in good physical shape now, having already started on court practice in his home town.

Nadal has plans to first take part in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi in the last week of this year. He will make his comeback to the ATP Tour by featuring in the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open in Doha. The 26-year-old will then take part in the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open.

According to his statement, he would take a break of almost one month after Australian Open before featuring at the Mexican Tennis Open in Acapulco in the last week of February.

However, in modern tennis it is not enough to simply slice the ball back into play on every shot. You need a topspin backhand with which to put pressure on your opponent and win points quickly.
