Serena Williams faces back pain, withdraws from Washington event

World number four, Serena Williams of USA, has revealed that she is suffering from pain in her back. She has pulled out of an exhibition event, named World Team Tennis in Washington.

World number four, Serena Williams of USA, has revealed that she is suffering from pain in her back. She has pulled out of an exhibition event, named World Team Tennis in Washington.

However, the legend has stated that this problem should not risk her participation in the London Olympics. The Florida, USA resident also added that she aiming to win Gold Medal at the Olympics.

The American announced, "I'm disappointed that I won't be able to see my (Washington) DC fans, but can't wait to go for gold in London."

Serena wants to rest her back and get fit in time for the London Olympics. The 30-year-old is considered one of the best female players in the tennis history but she is yet to win an Olympics Gold Medal. The 14-time Grand Slam champion was upset by the eventual champion, Russia’s Elena Dementieva, in the quarter-finals of Beijing Olympics four years ago.

The American star has regained her form and fitness after a two year battle with her health and game. She captured her fifth Wimbledon title by defeating Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska in the final two weeks back. She did not take any break and went straight to Stanford to participate in the Bank of the West Classic, winning her second back to back title.
