Tennis: World number one and 17-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams says that any one who is about to quit should get motivation from her sister Venus Williams who is the greatest.

Serena said this after her elder sibling stunned the second ranked player and two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in the second round of Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on Tuesday.

The American star wrote on her facebook page, “If u ever think about quitting- just think about my sister Venus Williams, she's the greatest.”

Venus is also a former world number one player and seven-time Grand Slam champion but she had been unable to produce any result like this lately. The 33-year-old who was in her prime at the start of this century has not won any Grand Slam for the last five years. She had been having an impressive season so far, getting dropped to 63rd rank this week.

Age is not the only reason of this decline as she is also suffering from auto-immune disease for quite some time now. However, Venus did not show any sign of weakness in her match against the Belarusian player and got better of her in every department of the game.

Serena has beaten Azarenka a number of times during the last two seasons including the recently concluded US Open final but after seeing her happy reaction it seems that Venus’ win has provided her more happiness then all of those wins combined.

There is no doubt in this that Williams sisters love each other a lot. They have been always watching each other’s matches from the player box. They have also partnered to win 13 Grand Slam titles and 3 Olympics Gold Medals in doubles event.

How to play from the baseline

The expression “to endure the rally” is about those indeterminate moments of a rally where none of the players is leading.

The ability to endure the rally is fundamental when you play a “long rally”, because it offers you the chance to measure your opponent’s strong points and vulnerabilities, besides letting you position as best as possible for your next offensive shot.
