Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic registered his first win after three consecutive losses to through into 3rd round of Rogers Cup Toronto championships. He came back from one set deficit against French Julien Benneteau to beat him 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

World no. 7 Tomas Berdych, who was a finalist at 2010 Wimbledon Championships, suffered an upset loss to Ernests Gulbis of Latvia as he lost to him in the first round back in June. Czech Republic's hopes lied on him as he represented them at the London 2012 Olympic Games but he again disappointed by losing in first round to Steve Darcis of Belguim.

Where World no. 31, Julien Benneteau was coming after winning a bronze medal at doubles event of Olympics and locking horns with World No. 1 Roger Federer in the singles event of Wimbledon and Olympics. He was two sets to love up against eventual Roger Federer at Wimbledon in the third round but lost to him and then lost to Federer in second round of Olympic Games. He partnered Richard Gasquet in doubles event of Olympics and won bronze medal.

Benneteau took a set lead in his encounter with Berdych on Wednesday but Berdych made a comeback and won both sets to go through to next round where he will face Benneteau's doubles partner Richard Gasquet.
