US Open - Marion Bartoli beats American Jamie Hampton to reach second round

Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli moved into the second round of the US Open surviving a second set challenge from her American opponent.

Bartoli beat American Jamie Hampton 6-3, 7-6(5) for her 18th consecutive first round win at a slam..

Hampton was down an early break in the second set but she fought back and leveled the match at 4-4 at which point the rain came down and suspended the match.

Bartoli managed to win the second set in a tie break to complete the win in one hour and 37 minutes.

Bartoli is playing in her 41st consecutive Grand Slam event, second only to Francesca Schiavone for the longest active streak among WTA players.

She has reached the quarter finals of all the other three grand slams but has been only to the fourth round here.
