Top seed Marion Bartoli recovered from a break down in the final set against Vania King to move into the quarter finals of the Mercury Insuarnace Open in Carlsbad on Wednesday night.
The Frenchwoman was trailing the American 2-4 in the final set when she took a medical time out. Bartoli then won the next four games to complete the 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win in three hours and ten minutes.
''When you are going through those kinds of patches, you still have to find a way to win,'' Bartoli commented. 'The pain started to kill my motion on the serve. ''It was affecting me a lot and affecting me on my baseline game as well.''
King hit a higher percentage on her first serves (68 percent) and had just three double-faults, but had her serve broken nine times.
It was a ''long match and I really don't want to lose it,'' commented King. ''It was frustration because I had my chances.''
King had also taken a medical time out for a left groin injury when she was up 6-5 in the second set.
