Angelique Kerber has reached the finals of the WTA Western & Southern Union Open in Cincinnati after a three set win over former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.
Kerber won 61 26 64 win Kvitova and will meet Li Na in the final on Sunday.
"I did a lot of mistakes," Kvitova told the press later. "I knew if I played my solid game and went for my volleys I could win, but my mistakes were the problem. But it's a great result for me to win Montréal and be in the semifinals here in Cincinnati."
"My tactic was to move very well and bring the balls back and deep," Kerber told the media after her win. "I started very well in the second set, but she started to hit winners and I had no chance actually, but I just kept fighting until the last point. It's amazing to be here in the final - for sure right now this is one of my favorite tournaments. I came here to get a lot of matches before New York, and I beat Serena and Petra and I'm in the final. I'm enjoying myself so much."
Li has beaten Kerber in fur f theri five career meetings. Kerber will move to no. 6 in the world - a new career best on Monday.
