Tennis- The top seed Venus Williams and second seed Misaki Doi are through to the final of the Taiwan Open WTA Tournament in Kaohsiung as they registered straight sets victories over opponents their third seed Yulia Putintseva and sixth seed Su-Wei Hsieh respectively.

Venus Williams had beaten her Kazakh opponent twice in straight sets in last two years, including second round of 2015 Wimbledon. Once again she was dominant against 21-year-old Putintseva as she broke in the fourth game and held her serves to go 5-2 up. But Kazakh made a comeback and levelled it at 5-5.

Williams showed her experience at the crunch moment as she won next two games to take the first set 7-5. In second set Putintseva broke Williams in the first game but former World No.1 broke back in the next game. Both players broke each other once again in sixth and the seventh game, before Williams got the final break in the eighth game and served out the match to go through. She will be playing for her 49th WTA title.

On the other hand Misaki Doi needed less than an hour to end host nation's hopes. Sixth seed Su-Wei Hsieh led Doi 4-1 in head-to-head record but the Japanese had won their last battle. Doi broke Hsieh 5 times in the match and saved the only break point she faced to win 6-0, 6-2. She has won only 1 WTA title in her career before.

RESULTS:

(1) Venus Williams (USA) DEF (3) Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhsta) 7-5, 6-3

(2) Misaki Doi (Japan) DEF (6) Su-Wei Hsieh (Chinese Taipei) 6-0, 6-2
