Dominika Cibulkova won her first career title at the Kremlin Cup on Sunday, winning a marathon final over Kaia Kanepi in a two-hour, 36-minute marathon, 36 76(1) 75.

This was the first win for the Slovak over Kanepi in three career meetings.

Kanepi got the only break of the opening set in and stayed on serve with Cibulkova throughout the entire second set. Kanepi missed a break point at 5-5 in the second set and Cibulkova rallied to win the set in a tiebreaker. The third set saw several breaks but it was Cibulkova who managed to get her serve steady again at 6-5 and served out the victory.

Coming into the tournament, Cibulkova was one of only two Top 20 players without a WTA title to her name. Peng Shuai is now the only Top 20 player without a WTA title.

The doubles final saw Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova winning their fourth WTA doubles title together.

Cibulkova reached the finals of Linz last week and is looking to reach back to her career best ranking of no. 14 which she achieved a few years ago.

Cibulkova's win also sees her likely qualify for the year ending Bali event which takes place in the first week of November.
