American Jamie Hampton is through to the quarter finals of the HP Open in Osaka, Japan with a win on Wednesday over Thai veteran Tamarine Tanasugarn.

Hampton was down a double break in the first set but fought back and also saved a set point to defeat the 2010 champion here 7-5, 7-5.

She will next meet former US Open champion Samantha Stosur for a place in the semi finals.

"We played earlier this year in Charleston, I think I won in straight sets but she's a talented player who's quite young and has had some good wins," Stosur commented on her next match. "For her to win two matches here she must be playing well and it's one of those matches where I need to be ready. I'll try and take care of my game, do what I like to do and be aggressive out there."

Also through to the quarter finals are Chang Kai-Chen and local favorite Misaki Doi, who beat Casey Dellacqua and Olga Puchkova respectively.
