Donald Young and Wayne Odesnik emerge after wild Saturday in the Savannah Challenger- View: 1936 by Jonathan Morgan
There were 6 matches that needed to be played today and luckily for the organizers, all were completed. Donald Young caught a break in his quarterfinal match vs. Michael Yani, as Yani had to retire after losing the first set 1-6 with a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Iron Mike Russell dispatched of James Blake 6-2, 6-4 in the veteran quarterfinal battle. Wayne Odesnik was in a dogfight with Amer Delic in their quarterfinal before Delic also had to retire.
He had an ankle injury. And Ryan Harrison's 19th birthday was spent winning his quarterfinal 7-5 6-3 against Bobby Reynolds to set up a match with Odesnik. Later in the day, the semifinals took place.
Odesnik and Harrison played a tight match but Odesnik prevailed 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. A tough loss for the youngster Harrison, especially on his birthday. But, he'll have plenty of his own days in the sun. In the other semifinal, it was Michael Russel vs.
Donald Young. Russell was already at a disadvantage seeing as Young barely had to play a set to win while Russell played a full 2 sets. Not to mention the 12 year age difference between these guys. It was not a shock to see Young win 6-1, 6-4.
