Troicki and Petzschner score wins- View: 1420 by Jonathan Morgan
After the first few matchups in the Blue Group, Germany, Spain, Russia, and Serbia were all tied with a W-L record of 1-1. On Thursday, there were only 2 matches played total in the Blue Group. Viktor Troicki crushed plenty of backhands and moved Marcel Granollers around.
Granollers appeared tired and allowed Troicki to boss him in the baseline rallies. Troicki is having a good year and is knocking on the door of the top 10. This was a must win match for Serbia if they wanted any chance to win the Blue Group.
Troicki wins 6-4 6-4. In the Germany-Russia match, Phillipp Petzschner cruised against Igor Andreev 6-2 6-4. It is a bit sad to see how far Andreev has fallen. A former great clay courter who pushed Federer to the brink at Roland Garros in 2009 and beat Nadal on clay in 2005 now can't get a set vs.
Petzschner. That loss to Lajovic must have really mentally destroyed him. Give credit to Petzschner though, he did what he needed to do. There is still much to be decided in the Blue Group, though, with a singles match and a doubles match to be played tomorrow.
