The LSU men’s tennis team got off to a hot start in singles play in the Rainbow Warrior invitational as the Tigers secured five victories Monday morning at the UH Tennis Complex.
“This was a perfect first day of play,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “We finished the game strong after a slow batch of doubles, and we were able to find some areas of improvement along with some bright spots. Overall, it was great to be competing again.”
The Tigers were unable to come up with a win on the doubles courts as the four pairs went 0-6 against the doubles duos from Ole Miss. However, Justin Butsch, Gabor Csonka, Rafael Wagner and Julian Saborio each secured victories on the singles courts for LSU against opponents from Ole Miss to ignite a spark for the LSU individuals.
Senior Butsch highlighted the singles victories as he notched a 6-4, 6-1 victory against No. 14 Gustav Hansson. Csonka also recorded a straight-set victory as he recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win against Ricardo Jorge. Wagner defeated Grey Hamilton, 6-3, 6-2, and Saborio took the 6-3, 6-3, win against Robert Mounger.
Saborio also recorded a win against Hawaii’s Chris Cajigan with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
