Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's tennis team will enter new spring seasons with two new captains, in the names of Eddy Covalschi and Josh Hagar. These two seniors and starters were given the captain role for the first time, and the team could hardly pick any better solution, as they have been the doubles partners for almost 2 years now. Covalschi and Hagar will enter the spring season in a red hot form after they reach the quarter-final of the ITA All-American Championships in October, passing 3 qualifying rounds first. They also made the semis at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships and won the first round consolation bracket at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in November. Hagar will enter the new season with 64-37 in singles and 54-33 in doubles. Covalschi stands at 54-64 in singles and 55-47 in doubles matches.
“It's exciting every year to be able to talk about players who are elected captains by their teammates,” head coach Sachire said. “Both Eddy and Josh have played significant roles in our program since their arrival on campus as freshmen, and both of them have achieved national-level success as players. Most importantly, Eddy and Josh have earned the necessary trust and respect from their teammates to be elected to this position. I am very optimistic about the season that our team can have, in large part because of the two seniors that will be leading the way.”
