Coming off a mixed weekend on the road, the UMass tennis team returns home to the Bay Road Tennis Center to host Boston College on Saturday before then hosting Army on Sunday. Saturday's match against Boston College will also be the team's annual Black Out match with the first 30 fans receiving a free black UMass tennis t-shirt.
UMass enters the weekend with a 4-2 record after last week's action. Last Friday, the Minutewomen dropped a narrow 4-3 decision at Georgetown before bouncing back for a 6-1 win at Atlantic 10 foe George Washington.
The Eagles are 3-3 on the year after picking up a pair of wins last Saturday against Rhode Island and Bryant. Boston College will host Brown on Friday before travelling to UMass. Army is also 3-3 on the year, but will play four matches until Sunday's meeting with the Minutewomen.
The Minutewomen have won 29 of their last 31 home matches dating back to the 2010-2011 season. Only Boston College and Connecticut have defeated UMass at home in that span.
Brittany Collens continues to lead UMass in singles play this season with a 13-4 overall mark. Janja Kovacevic is 9-3 overall including 4-1 in singles play, while Anna Woosley and Ana Yrazusta both have eight wins. Yrazusta has been playing some of her best tennis of late with a five-match win streak in hand.
Doubles play has continued to be a strength for the Minutewomen this year with UMass posting a 13-4 mark as a team. Kovacevic and Yrazusta are a perfect 6-0 in dual matches primarily at the No. 2 position.
