Five ATP young players to see in 2017- View: 3203 by Lorenzo Ciotti
2016 was a year of great changes in men's tennis. Andy Murray was crowned as the new king of the ATP ranking, while Novak Djokovic finally completed the career Grand Slam. For the first time since many years, Roger Federer closed the season without winning a title.
The next generation, instead, didn’t progress we all had hoped in 2016. Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic had problems because of their behaviors. Even Andrey Rublev didn’t shine, while among those who played a very good season there were Lucas Pouille and Dominic Thiem, although the latter is almost twenty-four.
Here are the five prospects upon which we expect good results in the coming season. Nick Kyrgios. Despite the disqualification for misconduct, the young Australian won three titles in 2016: Marseille, Atlanta and the major tournament in Tokyo.
At 22, 2017 must be the year of his consecration. Taylor Fritz. The 19-year-old American is one of the hopes of Stars and Stripes tennis. He played a good 2016, with his first ATP final that he lost to Kei Nishikori in Memphis, and 2017 he can only improve.
Frances Tiafoe. At 18, the talented American is perhaps the greatest hope and the next star of USA. We'll have to carefully observe his performances on the ATP tour, but the premises for the new tennis stars are there.
Alexander Zverev. Another 19-year-old on the launching pad. In 2016, the German played three finals (on all three surfaces), two of them lost to Thiem and Florian Mayer, in Nice and Halle respectively and one won, against Stan Wawrinka, in St.
Petersburg. Next season everyone expects great results. Lucas Pouille. At twenty-two, the Frenchman seems to have, with proper proportions, a small part of Roger Federer’s tennis, which combines a fantastic two-handed backhand.
In 2016, he won in Metz against Thiem and lost in Bucharest to Fernando Verdasco. To this, we also have to add the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and the US Open. Also Read: Could 2017 give us a last golden year of this tennis era? .
