FED CUP - Oceane Dodin refuses to play, she may get banned for five years
Tennis - She will be replaced by Amandine Hesse in the tie against Spain
Issues for the French Fed Cup team continue. Oceane Dodin, who was chosen by Yannick Noah to play the play-offs tie this weekend against Spain replacing the injured Caroline Garcia after many complaints, won't play and she took the risk of getting fined by 7.500 euros or banned for five years from National tournaments. The Lilloise native, World No. 60, did the same thing in February for the tie against Switzerland. In an interview she had said tennis is an 'individual sport' that doesn't suit to team competition events. The World No. 205 Amandine Hesse will replace her again. 'The first time I played Fed Cup it was beautiful, I was so happy. The team spirit, the group, can be important but for me it's not like this', Dodin had explained. 'My singles career is more important than Fed Cup that I never played. I am not the French No. 1 or 2, but the 4.'
The chief of the French tennis federation Bernard Giudicelli commented: 'By this week the Federal commission will examine this case. Usually in the past players were doing what they wanted to, but we wanted to make some rules that will be the same ones also for younger players who train in our centers.'
