Novak Djokovic reveals who was his biggest hero at the Roland Garros
Tennis - The World No. 2 admired one player...
For Novak Djokovic, Roland Garros event was a very special one also when he was a kid. The World No. 2 revealed in Monte Carlo who was his favourite player back in the days in the second Grand Slam of the season.
'I loved watching Guga Kuerten playing at Roland Garros, drawing heart couple [of] times after he won the title, some big matches', said Djokovic, who is a big Kuerten's friend. 'He was such a charismatic player, great person, someone that everybody liked. He won three times Roland Garros. I remember his matches very well. There were some incredible matches in the past in Roland Garros because we didn't have, up to this year, I don't know if they changed the rule of the tie-break in the fifth set. There was no tie-break, so you had some unbelievable marathon matches. I can't pick one at the moment, but it's always very exciting because it's a Grand Slam.'
Kuerten won the title in 1997 beating Sergi Bruguera, in 2000 defeating Magnus Norman and in 2001 winning against Alex Corretja. In the other Major events, he never went beyond quarter-finals in Wimbledon and US Open, while at the Australian Open he had his best result in 2004 reaching third round.
