France's Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut edged in-form Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic to reach the Rogers Cup final.

The fifth seeds handed a straight sets defeat to the Wimbledon runners-up 7-5 6-3 after an hour and 18 minutes of action.

The players were sent back to the locker room after just a couple of minutes of play due to rain.

Marach and Pavic failed to hold on to their serves and win the first set after breaking the French duo to open up a 4-3 lead.

Herbert and Mahut avoided any further drama as a break of serve in the fourth game of the second set was enough to see them end on the winning side.

Herbert and Mahut converted 3-of-4 of their break point tries while saving 4-of-5 of the break point chances they faced during the match.

They are set to meet next Rohan Bopanna and Ivan Dodig, who narrowly beat Raven Klaasen and Rajev Ram 4-6 7-6 (8) 11-9.

Sixth seeds Klaasen and Ram recovered from a 6-2 second set tie-break deficit -- had two match points at 7-6 and 8-7 -- before losing the next three points and the set.

Bopanna and Dodig were on the brink of losing the clash once again but successfully overturned an 8-6 super tie-break deficit.

The seventh-seeded pair hit 10 aces in a one-hour and 42-minute win earned at the Montreal Masters on Saturday.

Herbert and Mahut ended champions at the Rome Masters earlier this year, while seventh-seeded Bopanna and Dodig are playing just their second tournament as a team this week in Montreal.
