WTA RANKINGS 17-07-2017: Pliskova is the new No.1, Serena is out from Top10

In the past 4 years and 5 months, there were only two players at the top of the WTA standings, Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber. That all changed after Wimbledon, with Karolina Pliskova becoming the 23rd player since 1975 who conquered the WTA throne.

Despite an early exit at Wimbledon, Karolina earned the leading spot with her consistency during 2017, winning titles in Brisbane, Doha, and Eastbourne, but it has to be said that the whole WTA is just not the same competition without Serena Williams, and there's no player who could achieve even small part of what Serena did in the years behind us.

Simona Halep also had a shot for the leading place, but she lost to Johanna Konta, staying 185 points behind the Czech in second. Angelique Kerber dropped to third (it was about time for her to lose the leading spot, after a string of very poor results), ahead of Johanna Konta who gained 3 positions to be 4th.

Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza returned to Top 10 after being 15th last time around, just in front of Elina Svitolina who is 6th. Caroline Wozniacki, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Venus Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska complete the Top 10, while Serena Willimas dropped to 15th, leaving the Top 10 for the first time since 2012. Young Croat Ana Konjuh made a nice move to be 22nd, together with Shuai Peng who also jumped 7 spots to be 30th.

Nevertheless, the mover of the week is Magdalena Rybarikova played her best tournament so far in a career at Wimbledon and that gave her a progress of 54 spots. Another mover of the week is Petra Martic, who earned 46 places, which puts her at 89th.
