Serena Williams to be World No. 1 again next week! But Kerber can pass her again
Tennis - The German player will lose the highest spot in the rankings next week
In this week's WTA Rankings the World No. 1 Angelique Kerber has 85 points more than Serena Williams, but next week the American player, despite playing only two WTA Events (Rome and Auckland) since last May beyond the Grand Slams and Olympics, will regain the no. 1 spot. Anyway, the German player can be no. 1 again in Stuttgart, where she will try to defend her title won last year. Kerber, who has held the no. 1 ranking for 25 weeks so far, will need to reach semi-finals, which means she has to win only two matches as she will receive a first round bye. Next week Williams will have her 317th week as the no. 1: only Stefanie Graff (377) and Martina Navratilova (332) were at no. 1 for more weeks than her. Kerber who is 10th in the Race to Singapore, has earned 1,207 points this year so far. In Stuttgart all the top ten players will play but Serena, including Johanna Konta who received a wild card invitation. Maria Sharapova will be obviously the main attraction of the event.
