After the loss to Jana Fett, Francesca Schiavone announced that the 2017 season will be her last one as professional tennis player.
´This is my last year of tennis ... that´s why I´m upset (I) didn´t give the best here´, Schiavone said in a press conference. ´This year I want to give everything that (I´ve) learned in the last 19 years. In life I think I´ve arrived at the time to take the decision," she said of her retirement, despite still feeling a passion for tennis. This sport is a drug for me, I love to play this sport.´
Schiavone, who turned professional in 1998, is already thinking about her post-career life: ´I don´t know what I will do but I´m already planning something.´
She will play Australian Open in the main draw And will be extremely motivated: ´I am going to Melbourne hoping and working in order to find my feeling (before the Australian Open).´
It´s not a surprising decision by Schiavone, who had decided in November not to call it a career and play for another year.
