Tennis: Former world no.1 dropped first set before winning two sets against Daniel Brands of Germany

Tennis: Former world no.1 and 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer needed 3 sets to beat Daniel Brands of Germany in the first round of German Open Tennis Championship in Hamburg. Federer dropped first set 6-3 before winning next two 6-3, 6-2.

The 4-time champion of Hamburg, Federer did not have a perfect start to the match and he missed both the break points that he got in the first set. He was broken once and lost the first set 6-3.

He got his touch back in the second set and did not face a single break point in the whole set. Only a single break point was enough to give him the break and he took the second set 6-3 to level it at one set all.

The Swiss kept in momentum going in the third set and broke his opponent twice to reach the next round where he will face Jan Hajek of Cech Republic. This is Federer's first set since losing in the second round of Wimbledon, which ended his streak of reaching 36 straight grand slam Quarterfinals.

Second seed Tommy Haas of Germany also needed 3 sets to beat Blaz Kavcic of Slovakia. World no.11 defeated the qualifier 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

5th seed Juan Monaco got a win over former world no.7 Gael Monfils in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
