Tennis - 23 year old Vasek Pospisil will play a pivotal role in the Serbia vs. Canada Davis Cup semi final in September being played in Belgrade. While Milos Roanic will be the top dog for Canada, the Canadians will need their second singles player to do well so that all the pressure does not fall on Roanic. This is the first time in their history that Canada has reached the Davis Cup World Group semi finals.
In an interview to the Vancouver Sun, Pospisl commented, "For sure, it's extremely exciting. It's a milestone for tennis in Canada. It's the first time we've ever been in the semifinals. Everyone is looking forward to that. I'm trying not to think too much about it because I still have some tournaments leading up to it. It's a difficult balance because obviously you want to look out for your personal career and, at the same time, you want to get to the Davis Cup feeling fresh. So you have to kind of balance tournaments a little bit, which is what I'll be doing. I'll take a few weeks off before the U.S. Open.”
Pospisil, ranked no. 89 in the world, is currently in Vancouver for the ATP Challenger event there and is seeded no. 2 in the draw.
