Davis Cup: Team Russia take the early lead vs Team South Africa in the Relegation Playoff

The Relegation Playoff well underway

Karen Khachanov took to court in the opening rubber of Russia’s Davis Cup against Team South Africa's Dean O'Brien in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I relegation play-off Tie.

17 year old Khachanov is now well-known for his huge jump in the world rankings (about 300 spots) following an inspiring run in Moscow's Kremlin Cup event.He lost to Ivo Karlovic after recording impressive wins against Albert Ramos of Spain and Janko Tipsarevic.
 

Earlier today, he gave his nation an early 1-0 lead when he beat Dean O'Brien in straight sets 7-5 6-1 6-3.

Alex Bogomolov Jr. , the only player in the team with Davis Cup experience to look back on, is currently involved in the second singles rubber against Jacob Coenraad De Klerk, also known as Japie De Klerk.
