World No.1 Serena Williams had a flawless 2013; but will she be able to continue to give her best in 2014

Serena Williams, the name says it all. She needs no foreword, no enhancement and no fortune

Top female tennis player Serena Williams, had a wonderful season, winning a number of major events. From winning the French Open, followed by the U.S. Open this year, Williams showed sheer dedication winning 9 WTA tournaments besides, and assemble a flawless 78-4 record this year.

Here we take a look at who could be a threat to Williams' incomparability in the coming season.

1. VICTORIA AZARENKA [H2H 3-13]

There are a very few player players, who have two victories in the same year against Serena Williams. One of those players is Belarusian star Victoria Azarenka. Out of the 4 defeats this year, Azarenka served two of them. With the competency she holds, Azarenka is, apparently, the only player who can dethrone Serena from the top-spot in the rankings chart next year.

2. LI NA [H2H 2-10]

Li Na also had an imposing season, which saw her climb in the rankings to third spot. The Chinese went on to win 46 matches and lost only 14 matches in 2013. With the kind of form currently she possesses, Li is certainly one of the biggest threats to Serena Williams in 2014.

3. MARIA SHARPOVA [H2H 2-14]

Russian beauty Maria Sharapova has had a huge dip in her form. However, her caliber is good enough to fright the best of the best players. Presently placed at the fourth position, Sharapova will surely look to live up to the sky-high expectations and trap some big upsets, probably a win over Serena Williams.

4. SIMONA HALEP [H2H 0-3]

Though Romanian Simona Halep is yet to notch up a victory against Serena Williams in her career, she has exhibited absolute commitment and devotion, winding up the year with a remarkable record of 53-18. Who knows, maybe she will create a dent in Williams' "much awaited" near future.

5. EUGENIE BOUCHARD [H2H 0-1]

Canadian rising star Eugenie Bouchard carries an notable record of 104-45 in the last couple of years, and the 19-year-old is now considered to be a serial threat to all the players belonging to the elite group. Though "Genie" is yet to experience the conditions to face Serena on the court, one could not write her off ahead of their first meeting.

So, will Serena Williams carry on the momentum in 2014; hope so, or hope so not?
