Tennis - Gilles Simon wins second five setter in a row days after being on crutches

Tennis - Tsonga, Roanic and Dimitrov all move into the third round


Tennis - On the weekend, Frenchman Gilles Simon was so injured that he had to walk on crutches and was considering pulling out of the Australian Open. On Thursday, the 18th seeded Simon played his second successive five set match to advance to the third round in Melbourne.

In a battle of former top 10 players, Simon beat Croatian Marin Cilic 4-6 7-6(3) 6-7(5) 6-1 6-2 to move into the last 32.

In other second round matches on Thursday, tenth seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga remained on track for a fourth round showdown with Roger Federer, beating Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci 7-6(6) 6-4 6-4; 11th seeded Milos Raonic beat Romanian Victor Hanescu 7-6(9) 6-4 6-4; Frenchman Stephane Robert, a lucky loser, defeated Poland's Michal Przysiezny 7-6(3) 6-1 6-7(3) 6-1; and 22nd seeded Grigor Dimitrov beat Yen-Hsun Lu 6-3 6-3 7-6(11) .

Also, Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili upset the 31st seeded Fernando Verdasco 7-6(1) 3-6 2-6 6-4 6-4.
