Andy Murray: ´I will not play in Monte-Carlo because I want to be ready for the Davis Cup´!

The British No.1 makes it clear how the Davis Cup tie against Italy to be played in April is priority for him


After digging dip to win against 20-year-old Jiri Vasely in the third round of Indian Wells, Andy Murray talked about his plans in the near future. Surprisingly the British No.1 revealed that he will not be playing the 2014 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, played from the 12th until the 20th of April. Behind the Scot's decision there is the will for Andy to be fully prepared to fly to Italy during the same month to play the Davis Cup quarter-finals. "I will not play in Monte-Carlo because it would be too much. I need to rest and prepare the match against Italy. I would't afford to play consecutively for 5 or 6 weeks. I don't want to arrive tired at the French Open" said Andy today from the Californian desert.

Last year in Monte-Carlo Murray was ousted in the first round by Stanislas Wawrinka. Soon after that loss, the Scot started to feel pain in the back, in what became an injury that forced him first to miss the French Open, then later in the year to finish the season in advance. Back to tennis in January, Andy still is struggling to find his best form.
