Tennis - World No.1 Serena Williams has been named as one of the most influential people in the world by TIME magazine in their annual list TIME 100. 32-year-old Serena, who has won 17 Grand Slam titles in her career, is on the list for the second time - the first being in 2010.
Serena commented on the honour, "Being on the Time 100 list is really exciting. To be considered one of the most 100 influential people in the world is great. I just try to do the best I can everyday and stay positive through the ups and downs."
Serena is the only tennis player, male or female, on the list and one of only five athletes to make the list - the others being Cristiano Ronaldo (soccer), Jason Collins (basketball), Richard Sherman (football) and Lydia Ko (golf).
Serena's citation in the magazine was written by Miami Heat's Dwayne Wade, who says, "I also look up to her as a fellow athlete. I respect her relentless work ethic, focus, drive and discipline. On the court, Serena is a warrior. An aggressive and competitive nature combined with passion, drive and skill makes her a formidable and fierce opponent. Off the court, she is a sweetheart, a bright light with an infectious spirit. She is extremely humble and cherishes her family and life."
