Federer to skip first round tiw against Czechs

Stanislas Wawrinka and Roger Federer have been good friends and doubles partners but the two obviously do not see eye to eye with regards to the Davis Cup.

Federer has decided not to play the first round Davis Cup tie between Switzerland and Czech Republic and that decision has not gone down too well with his compatriot.

Wawrinka told the Swiss media, “Roger has been saying for years that he wants to play the Davis Cup and it is important, but that’s apparently not the case. It’s a shame how he interprets things to suit his own opinion. Davis Cup is not a priority for him at the moment.”

Federer has often skipped the Davis Cup in his career to focus on more personal goals such as the world no. 1 ranking and the grand slams.

Wawrinka and Federer also won the Olympic doubles gold medal in 2008 for Switzerland
