WTA Memphis - Americans Lauren Davis and Coco Vandeweghe advance to second round

17 year old Lauren Davis continues ascent on the WTA circuit

Americans Lauren Davis and Coco Vandeweghe have moved into the second round of the US National Indoor Tennis Championships in Memphis withf irst round wins on Monday.

The 17 year old Lauren Davis scored a hard fought three setw in over left handed Ksenia Pervak 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. Davis won an ITF Challenger event last week and continues to make rapid strides on te pro circuit after a standout junior career.

Meanwhile, American Vandewegeh ended a poor run of form with an upset win over sixth seeded Channelle Scheeprs. Vandeweghe has been considered a top prospect for American tennis for a few years now but has struggled to win matches at the WTA level over the past year.

4th seeded Heather Watson. 20 years and already in the tp 50 of the world, also advanced beating Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva 7-5,5-7, 7-6. Watson won her first WTA title last fall - making her the first Brit in 24 years to win a WTA title.
