Tennis - If Andy Murray loses on Thursday to Stanislas Wawrinka, Federer goes back to no. 2

Tennis - Roger Federer will be hoping for a helping hand from good friend and doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka on Thursday.

Wawrinka, the world no. 17, takes on world no. 2 Andy Murray in the third round of the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters Series event on Thursday and if Wawrinka beats Murray, then Federer moves back to no. 2 in the world.

Murray took over the no. 2 ranking from Federer after his title win in Miami. Both Murray and Wawrinka won their second round matches on Wednesday.

Murray defeated Frenchman Eduardo Roger-Vasselin 6-1, 6-4 while Wawrinka defeated Spain's Albert Montanes 6-1, 6-1.

Federer is in the middle of an eight week break. He last played at Indian Wells and will only return to the tour for the Madrid Masters. Federer is only 13-4 this year and has not reached the finals in any of the events he has played this year while Murray is now 20-2 with two titles already.
