Tennis - Anti-Muslim riots in the nation lead to decision

Tennis - According to Reuters, Myanamar has decided that it would not host  Davis Cup ties this month due to security concerns in the country. The decision has not been linked to the bizarre New Zealand-Pakistan tie held in Myanamar a few weeks ago where a hole had developed on the court on the first day and the ITF referee suspended the tie and handed victory to the Kiwis.

In the past month, there have been anti-Muslim riots in the country which has sparked the decision. Myanmar was to host the 2013 Asia/Oceania Zone Group III and IV events from April 22-May 5 in Yangon where 19 nations were set to take part.

President Aung Maw Thein, president of the Tennis Federation of Myanmar, commented, "The government informed us on April 13 that we will need to postpone the events due to security reasons. While the sports ministry did not divulge the details, I think it was because of last month's problems."

The ITF has yet to comment on this decision.
