Tennis: Top seed and 2-time champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has reached the Quarterfinals of the Moselle Open in Metz with a straight sets 7-6 (7), 6-4 win over Gerd Muller in the second round. Tsonga had won the tournament in 2012 and 2013, whereas he lost to his compatriot Gilles Simon in the final last year.
After giving France a place in the Davis Cup final last week, Tsonga returned to action infront of his home crowd once again. Muller saved a break point in the second game of the first set, which was the only break point of the set.
Tsonga did not face any break points and Muller also held all his serves, which forced the set into a tie-break. Tsonga served a set point on his serve at 5-6 and went on to win the tie-break 9-7. In the second set, the Frenchman broke Muller in the third game at 0 and saved all 5 break points he faced in the set to take the set 6-4 and booked his place in the last 8.
Tsonga fired 10 aces in response to Muller's 15. The 32-year-old French wildcard Paul Henri Mathieu, who had reached the final here in 2008 and had a record of 9-15 this year, stunned the 4th seed Lukas Rosol in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
